Appearance: India is a tall, fairly dark skinned, 14 year old girl. Her face seems to be perfect. Her full face structure is amazing, and her face is very symmetrical. India always has her dark brown hair pulled back in a pony tail. She has hazel eyes that seem to flash red when provoked or annoyed. Her hair has beautiful natural light brown highlights that show she's been outdoors many times in the summer heat.


Personality: India is a sweet girl, but has a violent nature. She is very protective of her younger brothers and sisters, and has gotten even more protective ever since her younger brother was drawn into the Hunger Games and did not make it. India is very caring, but gets provoked easily and can be very violent when provoked or annoyed. She never has much patience with anybody but her younger siblings. She has a VERY short temper. India lives by the motto "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger."


History: India was born in District 12 in the Seam. Her and her family left the Seam when she was 9 years old. That was the time when her and her 5 siblings weren't eligible for The Hunger Games. They are all 1 year apart from eachother. India is the oldest at 14, Donovan is second at 13, Marshay at 12, Jimmie at 11, Gilinda at 10, and Braedon at 9.. 3 out of all the Harkniss children are eligible for The Hunger Games, but in a year, Jimmie will also be eligible. India is the one who takes the tesserae. Not allowing the others to take any. She wouldn't be able to live if another one of her siblings were drawn into the games, just like Hunter. Hunter was drawn into the games when he just turned 12. It was devestating for India to watch the games everynight. Her rage at the Capitol would start to spark out of control..


RP sample: India was walking into the Seam casually. Everyone that lived there knew her so well. She was so friendly to people, but that's only because they knew she was violent. They would NEVER in a million years try to start up a fight with India. She stopped to wave at a few people and continued on her short journey into the Seam. India's neighbor came running up to her. "India, India! Don't go hunting today. The gate has been on all morning!" She laughed. "Geesh, Michael! Don't get worked up about nothing. I wasn't going to go hunting anyways." She laughed again and looked up at the sky, seeing all the mockingjays flitting around wildly. They were quietly repeating a song they heard somewhere. The noise was faint, but India could make it out just enough to realize what they were repeating.. That song.. That was Hunter's song.

1. Since most of the people in the Seam live there because they are poor, how did India's family manage to leave the seam?

India's family managed to leave the Seam because they're family simply got more money. Since the coal mine explosion, some miners have been quitting their jobs in fear of losing their lives in another explosion. India's father was one of the few miners who stayed loyal to their occupation. He was payed more than he was before, but managed to leave the Seam. Her family decided to leave because India's siblings were afraid of the place, and their parents agreed that it was dangerous.

2. What do India's parents do for a living? What is her relationship like with each
of them?

India's father is a coal miner, lucky to not be there in the mine explosion to lose his life. India's mother is a trader at the Hob. Not much of an occupation, but it gets her family enough food and a bit of money to get them slightly through another day. India is very respectful to both parents, knowing the stress and struggle they've been through. She cares about them and helps them without being asked to, and is like another parent of the family.

3. Is there anything India doesn't like about her appearance? Does she have any
physical flaws?

India doesn't like being complimented. She feels that behind the nice words are feelings of hatred and jealousy. India is very modest, so she wont admit it.. But she knows that there's many things she can do. She is a very good hunter, helping provide for her family. She has good defense skills. Things that help with survival. But she can charm no one. First impressions of her are horrid. She hates it.

1. What kinds of things does India's mother trade at the hob?
India's mother is good friends with the butcher. The butcher has been struggling with his work. She offered to help him get in some trades from the people of District 12 in exchange for meat.
2. What kinds of things does India do when she meets people to give them a bad first impression of her?
India is very anti-social. She doesn't like to be around anybody but her family. When she first has a conversation with someone she's never met, she has no emotion in her voice. She comes off to them as rude and coldhearted.
3. Does India have many friends? What are they like? Are they mostly from the
Seam or outside the Seam?
As stated before, India can be very anti-social. She does not like to be around people, therefore, she does not have many friends. People in District 12 respect her and she gives the respect back. She may be friendly to them, but she could not consider them her friends. She does, however, have a neighbor named Michael, and has known him ever since she left the Seam. She does think of Michael as a friend, but only on the slightest bit of consideration.

1. What are India's ambitions for the future (this can be anywhere from in a
couple of days to several years)? Does she even have any yet?
India doesn't have any plans or ambitions for the future. She is determined to survive the year first. She would think that you would need to make sure that you can live for another year before you can start making plans. Once India turns 19, and is free of the reaping, she will start to make decisions about the rest of her life.
2. What does it take to provoke India?
Although India does not like to be complimented, she can't stand insults. She will show off as tough and strong and invincible to these nasty words, but nobody really is. Her siblings are her life, so if she senses that one of her brothers or sisters is in any danger or being insulted or bullied, that will throw her off the edge. She also gets annoyed if someone has the nerve to try and pick a fight with her or her siblings.
3. You said that India is violent when she is provoked. Has this ever gotten her
into trouble? Has she ever hurt anyone?
India's violent nature often gets her in trouble at school. The kids like to test her, and of course, she cannot resist being a little violent to set them straight.. Most of her violence gets used for self defense, or defense of her siblings. One time she ran into a gang. When they wouldn't leave her alone, all they saw was her eyes flash red and next thing you know, they're lying on the ground..

1. So India single-handedly fought a whole gang? Were there any repercussions? Did anyone involved get in trouble with the peacekeepers?
You could say that. They're were only 3 people in the gang. Teenage boys from about 17 to 19 years of age. India fought them and knocked them to the ground for the time India quickly got away. She does know that if she makes contact with those gang members again, she probably wouldn't be able to take them again. Nothing about this came up with the peacekeepers and only India and her family knows about this. The gang could've easily went straight to the peacekeepers, but they were a wanted gang throught District 12.

2. What types of things, if anything, does India do with her siblings when she is
not protecting them?
India is protecting them 24/7, But when all her family is safely home, she does spend time with her siblings. She teaches Donovan and Marshay self-defense skills, helps Jimmie and Gilinda with their academic skills, and Braedon, he still has the brain of a little child, is the baby of the family so India plays with him while the other Harkniss children do their own thing on their own time.
3. How did India cope with Hunter's death?
Hunter was reaped into the Hunger Games when India was 13. He and Donovan were twins and they did everything together. Donovan was affected especially when Hunter died, as he was his twin and it felt like a part of him has died. India came across as strong and it seemed like his death was not a big deal to her. But that was on the outside. On the inside, she was dying herself. She would lock herself in her room and start to write. Write poems about her feelings and her hatred toward the Capitol and how she would avenge Hunter's death. Although she had no idea how. She would cry for days until she came across a saying. "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.." She didnt exactly cope with his death. But it made her stronger.

1. Does India make decisions more with her head or her heart?
India can get conflicted sometimes. She doesn't know if she should do whatvher heart tells her to or what her mind tells her to do. The decisions she makes are usally thought out and planned well. She makes decisions with both, depending on the situation.

2. Since Christmas is coming up... what does India's family do for the holidays? Do they have any special traditions?
India's family treats Christmas like any other holiday but they do attend a small church just outside the Seam. India hunts extra during Christmas for the food to feed her family, but she also trades some of her catch for little gifts that she hopes will bring the slightest bit of hope and joy to her family.

3. How are India's grades in school? Would she be considered smart? Does India care about her schoolwork at all?
India's grades are well. She is a smart and hardworking student. Always completes her work and never gets distracted because she has no friends.

1. India does feel lonesome sometimes. Sometimes, her family is just not enough to keep her company or bring her joy. However, she does not want to have any friends. India believes that friends just turn into enemies, sooner or later. She thinks that they just befriend you, to later stab you in the back.

2. India would not be a bully. As stated, India's violence gets used up in self defense, and she works hard to control herself and to put up with annoyance.

3. India still has the poems she wrote. She doesn't write them anymore in fear of having the peacekeepers find them. The best she can do is hide them under her mattress. She doesn't through them away, she doesn't have the heart to. If she did, it would be like throwing away the memory of Hunter Harkniss. Sometimes, when she starts to feel lonesome, she takes them out from under her mattress and reads over them. It makes her feel better but deep down in her heart India knows her little brother is watching over her.

1. India doesn't trust anyone. She learned that ever since Hunter was killed in the games. She trusts nobody but her family and Michael.

2. India likes to write. Poems and stories and journal entries. They are beautiful pieces of work and she saves them under her mattress. She writes them after a stressful day, or even after a beautiful, peaceful day.

3. India loves to go to the meadow. She has been going to the meadoe on a daily basis ever since she turned could find her way to it. The meadow is peaceful to her, and gives her a sense of serenity.

1. India's most prized possesion is her notebook. It is a medium sized journal with a red fabric in the cover. She got it for her 13th birthday so she has not had it for so long. It is fairly new. She writes and writes everyday. She absolutely adores it. Her mother traded her best necklace for it.

2. India doesn't have a horrible memory besides that. She does have bad memories but nothing severe has happened. One time she broke her leg from falling out of a small tree when she was 12. She was devastated that she couldn't hunt for her family. Her father offered to do it for her, but he was not very good. He came home with little catch, not enough to feed the whole family.

3. India's favorite type of weather is the fall/winter season. She likes winter because some of the small animals are hibernating and she can't catch them easily. She likes fall because the changing of the leaves and the temperature outside, it makes her feel at peace.

1.India's grandfather lived with India's family until she turned 12. He then died that summer of a heart attack. He was 60 but he was strong and bold. He tried to teach India's mother to hunt, but she couldn't get the hang of it. India's grandfather would hunt for the family and India would tag along. She eventually got the hang of it and her grandfather would teach her more techniques and skills.

2. India hasn't done anything she is ashamed of or regretted. Everything India has done in her life has a purpose. India puts much thought into her actions. She might've not done anything she is ashamed of, but she is ashamed of herself and questions herself sometimes.

3. India gets embarrassed not often, but she does get embarrassed. It usually happens when she is trying to make an impression on someone. She puts so much thought into what she should do and what she is trying to do she gets clumsy and usually trips or falls. She makes a fool out of herself when she tries to make an impression on someone.

1. India is ashamed of her sexuality sometimes. Sometimes she feels so insecure about it. And sometimes she is proud because that's wlzho she is. India is not attracted to boys like girls should be.

2. India has a habit of thinking she is the only one who lost a loved one in the Hunger Games. Her neighbor, Michael has to remind her that there is 24 tributes each year and only one wins. He reminds her that 23 families every year are devestated with their loss.

3. India's biggest fear is her parents dieing. She doesn't like to think about the possibility that it could happen. She wouldn't be ready for the huge responsiblities that would drop down on her. She's have to make sure all of her 5 siblings are safe and fed. She doesn't tell anyone her fear because she doesn't want people to think negative.

1. India hasn't told anybody about her sexuality. Nobody. Sometimes, she gives off hints without even knowing she is doing it. But she's never honestly came out completely to anyone.

2. She fears he parents dying because it has happened to so many children throught the country of Panem. So many children lost their parents and have to fend for themselves. India knows she's lucky that she has both parents, but she still fears it.

3. India started to find herself attracted to girls around 11. She told herself that she was being silly, that a girl doesn't like a girl, that she has to like boys.. But she's never had a crush on a boy.. She tried so hard to push this feeling away, to keep it locked inside, but everyday just feels like a war for India. She walks around so mad at the world when, she's really just fighting with herself. She tells herself she doesn't want to fight anymore. She just needs to be her.

1. India doesn't know when she gives off the hints. They just happen. She catches herself just in time. Once in a while she will say something that will give it right out, but luckily she catches herself. Once she said "I don't like boys." That would've gave it right out ut she caught herself.

2. Michael definitely knows. But he refuses to believe it because Michael is head over heels for India. He has had a crush on her ever since he met her.

3. India hasn't accepted the fact that she might be gay. She continues trying to push away the feeling, and fighting with herself. She thinks she is attracted to both guys and girls.
