| So, this is a story about Will Regulus, a girl who is put into the first ever Hunger Games. Trust me, I checked that it's possible for District 12 to have another victor long before Haymitch. But, thats not the point. I hope you like this! This first chapter of the installment of my fan fiction is before the reaping, so the next chapter will be up soon! Enjoy! I'll appreciate it if you guys left me comments!
Chapter 1
Before the Reaping
Sitting beside my brother, I quietly cut the bread open and set it down on the plate on the floor. I lean over and put my head on his shoulder lightly. "Thank you for the bread," I whisper. "Will, don't worry," he smiled, "I didn't steal it. The bakers son is a friend of mine."
I sat up straight and took half of the bread. He took the other half and ate it while I nibbled at the sides. We grinned at each other, trying to look happy. "To mom and dad," he held up his glass of water. "May the rest in peace." I smiled faintly and held up mine. They made a clinking noise as the touched.
I took a small sip of water and he did the same. Suddenly, a loud knock cane from the door, making me spill a bit of my water. I growled.
He stood up and answered it. I looked over and saw a Peacekeeper at the door. "Please turn on your television in 5 minutes." he said sternly. My brother nodded and smiled at him. "Thank you. Have a good evening."The Peacekeeper didn't return a word of a smile. He just turned coldly and walked across the street to inform more people.
He shut the door and walked back to me. He shrugged and sat down next to me. "How are we going to watch the TV when we don't have one, Airyn?" I asked curiously. "We'll run over to Des's house. Please don't get uncomfertable." he gave a small sigh.
I groaned and looked at the floor. Honestly, Destery is the last person I wanted to see this very night. That day at school he told me he loved me, but he's the last person I would ever consider being with. Problem is he's Airyn's best friend. "Isn't there anyone else in District 12 we can go see?" I whined. "No, I trust Des's family. And anyways, this could beone funny tea party." he snickered and put his shoes on.
I stepped into my mothers old slippers and pulled on my fathers old hunting jacket. We both stepped outside into the dark and Airyn gripped my hand.
We walked on and on passing the Hob and a small girl and her mother. "Hello Corka!" I waved at the mother. They walked up to us and I leaned down to the little girl. "Hello Sae." I grinned. She giggled at me and tugged on my messy ponytail. Airyn chuckled, "Did you get the announcement?" "Yes, but our television is broken." Corka frowned. "You're welcome to come with us." I said and picked up Sae. "We are going to the Smith's house." She nodded and smiled at us. "Thank you."
We all walked a couple more blocks until Airyn stopped and knocked on a door. Destery answered quickly. "Thought you would be coming over, punk." he laughed and punched Airyn's shoulder. "Hope it's alright that I brought a few people." he sighed. "We don't have Tv's." he explained. Destery nodded and moved out of the way.
I was the last to enter the house and gave him a soft smile. He blushed and walked with me to the couch where only Airyn, Sae on Corka's lap, and his parents could fit. We took a seat aside from the couch. We didn't speak until he broke the silence.
"I meant what I said." he whispered and turned to face me. I sighed heavily and still looked at the static on the TV. "Destery, you're a year older then me." I muttered. He touched my shoulder softly to make me looked at him. "You're 16. I'm 17. So what? I really like you." he said seriously. I looked at the ceiling and laughed nervously. "What's so great about me?" "Everything." he answered quietly. "Your long brown hair, your skin, your eyes, your attitude. Everything."
I didn't reply. "It's starting!" Sae squeeled and clapped happily. I looked up at the TV with curiousty as Destery did the same. "Hello Panem!" a man announced. His face and an office appeared behind him It was a young man, a teenager. Soon to be President. The presidents son, President Snow.
" Tonight, we shall discuss a very important matter. It is about the rebels of our district." he explained. Destery nudged me. "Look, he's talking about you." he said sarcastically. I laughed a bit, trying to listen, "So, our plan is to start a game. A very exciting game." "Whats the game? Go fish? I like go fish. I want to play go fish." Sae said plainly.
"This is so no ordinary game. It's called the Hunger Games." We all sat quietly, listening to every word. I watched the mans smiling lips. "How can he still be smiling.." I muttered under my breath. Destery looked at me with shock. "We will hold a reaping next week from tomorrow. The reaping is where we shall choose one boy and one girl from each district to join these games. May the odds be in your favor! Have a nice evening Panem!"
I knew that those very seven words would be a terrible meaning to all of the 12 districts.May the Odds be in your favor...
The Tv went blank. I knew at that very moment, I heard a world wide gasp.
(So, I hope you enjoyed this. I worked hard on it! Next chapter coming up tonight! -Amy "Will" Annette Regulus.)

| I'm so sorry. I really like your first chapter, though. Is the Sae based on the "Greasy Sae" in the Hunger Games? | |

| Chapter 2
Reaping Day
I stood in front of Airyn, helping him tie his tie. "What would I do without you?" he asked with a sad smile. "I should be asking you that." I said with a slight laugh, feeling a tear roll down my cheek. He wiped my tear and leaned down to kiss my forehead. "May the odds be ever in your favor." he grinned sarcastically and turned me around. I felt him run his fingers through my now curled long brown hair. He put a ribbon in it and attached a small mockingjay necklace on me. I looked down at my mothers old purple dress, short and smooth. I gripped his hand and we walked into the town where the first ever reaping in history was being held. We read the signs closely. "Age 17 goes over there." he pointed out. I nodded and looked at him, eyes full of desperation. "Good luck." I shook his hand jokingly and turned to walk to my aisle. I stood beside Mai, my best friend. I hugged her tightly. "This is unbelievable." she whispered and let go. "I'm frightened." Before I could answer, the mayor of the district stood up. "Welcome people of district 12." he greeted all of us with a fake smile. We all fell silent as he explained the past of Panem, our great districts who are ruled by the Capital. Cameras swarmed around as he talked, making him stutter and sweat more every time he looked at one. I couldn't help but laugh under my breath. Just as he finished, a preppy women stood up to the microphone. "Hello District 12!" she exclaimed with a grin. I honestly think she's trying to defuse the tension. It must be hard to do, considering the whole district is hoping they or their child doesn't have to face certain death. "Alright, well I think your boss has already summed it up..." she muttered nervously into the microphone. "Anyways, I am Annabelle Trinket. I will be your escort to the games. Now, to pick the tributes!" she gave another smile. We could all tell she was trying to play her card well. "Girls first." she said and trotted her stubby little body to a glass container full of the girls from ages 12 to 18 in our district. As she walked, I looked at her features. Short green unnatural hair, too high high heeled shoes, and a zippered pink dress. I don't think I will ever understand the capital. It's a very strange place. "Remember, you can volunteer for the person who is picked so you can take their place in the games." she explained as she dug through the glass bowl. She took out a slip of paper, went to the podium, and smoothed the paper out. Everyone sucked in a breath of air. "Mai Everdeen." Mai looked at the women in shock. She then looked at me, teary eyed. She screamed loudly and covered her ears, falling to her knees. A boy picked her up to her feet and she slowly slumped to the stage. I watched her full disbelief. "Alright, good luck to you." Annabelle cheered. "Now to the boys!" She walked across the stage to the boys bowl but I wasn't paying attention. I was staring at Mai's parents. Her mother was the florist, her father is pharmacist. They were both crying silently as people watched them with a look of sadness. I looked back up to see she had already picked out the boys name. She took in a breath of air to tell the unlucky boy that he was going to possibly die, but before she spoke, she was interrupted. By me. "I volunteer!" I screamed as I charged towards the stage. I ran at Mai and pulled her into a tight hug, streaming tears. "Mai Primrose Everdeen!" I yelled loud enough even the microphone caught it. "You have a future. I don't. Someday, you're going to grow old with a man you love and have beautiful children, grandchildren even!" I let go of her and looked at her. "Remember when we used to pick Katniss plants out for your mother? Your child will do that someday. I swear of it! And your grandchildren. Who knows, they could be in these games someday! But you won't be. And they will win." I sobbed and watched her cry. The mayor escorted her off the stage to her parents who looked at me. They both kissed their three middle fingers and held them out to me, a sign in district 12. I nodded to them and looked at Destery and Airyn who were doing the same. "Ahem." Annabelle coughed. "As I was about to say. We now have a boy tribute!" Another gasp of air. "Jace Jenner." I looked into the crowd curiously. A boy started walking, an emotionless look on his face. His green eyes full of fear. I watched him walk forward, his spiky sandy blonde hair shook in front of his eyes and his muscles tightened. He walked over and stood beside me. I looked up at him, noticing he was much taller. So, this is the boy who gave me a flower after my parents death. Initialed J.J. But I can't be for sure.I thought. "And these are your districts tributes! Thank you so much for letting me come!" Annabelle gave one last smile. I could see the grief and relief on everyone's eyes. At that moment, Jace and I were hauled to the Justice Building. I looked up at the sky and then looked up at Jace. "You might want time to look at the sky." I whispered to him. "This may be the last time you are int eh real outdoors to see the sun." He nodded, his eyes saying thank you. Together, we both looked up at the sky, entrapped by our own thoughts.
Hope you liked this chapter! Another will be up soon! - Amy "Will" Annette Regulus

| Your writing is great! A really good chapter! Though, my only complaint would be it seems a little too much like the books. I mean, it's a fanfic and all, but just something to keep in mind I guess! | |
