Sasha stormed out of his house while going through a storm of emotions. he was just so angry at his dad right now. All his dad cared about was training for the Games. As much as Sasha wanted to win, he didn't want training for it to become his life. He absolutely hated his dad. His dad hadn't done anything good for Sasha his whole life except prep him for bith of their dreams: winning the Games. The only reason Sasha wanted that was for revenge for his mom. The Peacekeepers had killed her, and they were going to pay. He would show them once he, after winning the Hunger Games and had more ranking in society, was up there with them. The thought of revenge and the thought of his little brother, Evan, was all that kept him from ditching District 1.

Sasha walked along the streets alone, lost in his swirling thoughts. At the moment, he was thinking if Evan. Evan was a great kid, just a little scrawny. He would never be able to deal with their dad alone. If Evan was older or brawnier, Sasha would be gone from this place forever. He could probably find a way out of here by putting some money in the hands of the right person. Money had never been a problem for him, considering he came from one of the richest families in the district. That wasn't a necessarily good thing, though. It had corrupted his dad completely. His dad was nothing like the man his mom had described him to be when the two of them(his mom and dad) first met. His dad as she described him to have been was kind and willing to help anyone. The man of today was cruel and wouldn't lift a finger unless it was to hurt someone else.

Sasha was so deep in his thoughts that he didn't notice that he walked off the street, into a small field. He didn't even notice when he was about to bump into someone. Only luck saved him fom bumping into the girl in front of him. He tripped over his own two feet and only then did he see the girl above him, whom he was lying at her feet. He scrambled up, tried to straighten his shirt, and said,"Hey, sorry about that. I'm not really paying attention, if that isn't obvious enough." He smiled at the girl before actually looking at who she was.

Faeryn had been woken up to Thrinnean shouting at her to get ready for training. She had groaned and dragged herself out of bed, knowing it was only for the best. After all, winning The Hunger Games was her dream. By the time she had gotten dressed and gone downstairs, Thrinn had been standing at the doorway with his arms crossed and his foot tapping at a steady beat. Faeryn was prepared to be greeted with the familiar ‘Four miles. Go.’ That she had heard every Monday for the past two years, but no, today Thrinn surprised her by saying; “Six miles today. Now go.” “Six? What happened to four?” She asked, surprise coloring her already snobbish voice. “The Reaping will be soon and we need you in your best shape ever. Now go.” Thrinn replied sounding tired. “Fine.” Faeryn said heading out the door. As she went she switched her digital watch to stopwatch mode and took off running, pressing start and hearing the familiar beep as she went.

As she ran Faeryn thought about what would happen when she was chosen for the Hunger Games. The career often thought about what her dress would look like when she had her interview with the famous Caesar Flickerman. Faeryn thought a green dress would complement her eyes, but then she looked outstanding in almost any color, so it wasn’t really a problem, the true problem was the style of the dress. Faeryn had never been a fan of the mermaid style dresses, but she was sure that her designer would be able to handle it, that is if she actually had a good designer, and not one of those cheap designers who didn’t know what they were doing. As she thought of the cheap designers, she was particular reminded of the designers for districts eleven and twelve, whose poor tribute were dressed up as trees and coal miners, and there was nothing even remotely fashionable about that.

Faeryn ran through the square her pace and breathing were both even. The first few miles were practically like a walk in the park for Faeryn, but right now it seemed too easy. When she rounded the corner and finished her first mile, Faeryn checked her watch. The digital numbers showed that she had run about a 6:50 mile, which, even four a six-mile pace, was slow on her standards. Faeryn let out a sigh and quickened her strides; she couldn’t afford to go easy on herself this close to Reaping. The thought of Reaping made her wonder what Thrinn had is store for her today, the six mile run was only a warm up she knew, but her cousin was rather unpredictable when it came to what training came after she ran her warm up. Some days it was martial arts or knives, and others it was archery or something completely random like what plants were poisonous and whatnot.

Suddenly as Faeryn turned a corner she was forced to stop. Her shoes squeaked slightly as she tried not to run into the person who was standing in front of her. Faeryn starred as the person, who happened to be a boy, tripped over his feet and fell on the sidewalk at her feet. Faeryn glared at him skeptically as he adjusted his shirt and stopped her watch. “Hey, sorry about that. I'm not really paying attention, if that isn't obvious enough." The guy said, with a smile. “Oh, it’s obvious all right.” Faeryn said, with her usual smirk, though she did stick out her hand and offer to to help him up. She studied the guy for a moment, before recognizing him from school. Faeryn couldn’t remember his name, and she didn’t really care if she knew it or not, but he should at least know her’s, so she waited, somewhat impatiently to see if he would introduce himself.

When Sasha tripped, he honestly didn't know what to expect from the girl who had fallen in front. It really just depended in District 1. There were a couple types of catergories he had divided them into: the Careers, the Snobs, the Barbies, and the Nobodies. This was a joke he had going on with his friend, something all the guys knew about, but none of the girls did. It annoyed some of them to death. He grinned at the memories of the good times. His friends and he liked nothing better than playing a joke on somebody or kidding around. They could always try to be more serious, which on occasion, they were, but what was the fun in that nonsense?

Sasha took a good look at the girl. She definitely wasn't a Nobody. he could tell that right off the bat. Some people just had that posture that indicated that. He didn't really have a name for who this girl was. He guesses that he would just have to wait and see. Time usually showed all. The girl smirked at him and stuck a hand out, probably to help him up. She said,"Oh, it's obvious enough, all right." Sasha wasn't sure whether this was supposed to be an insult or just a comment.

He took her hand to help himself up. He said,"Thanks for that. I'm a little but of a clutz." He studied the girlfor a moment. She looked familiar, but she didn't look like any of his friends. So he must have just seen her around school or something. In case she didn't know his name, even though most people in the district did, he commented,"I'm Sasha. Sasha Leate. And you are?" His thoughts drifted while he waited for the girl to answer. He never paid attention, unless it was for training, of course. That was one of the many reasons he didn't do well in school. He wasn't stupid; he just never listened to what the teachers were saying. That, and he was too busy goofing off with his friends. School was an outlet for him to have fun; his house was a serious place, not a place for smiles or laughs. The only time he cracked a grin at home was when he was with Evan.

Sasha wondered what the Gamemakers would make the next arena like. This was the year he planned to volunteer, so he was doubly worried. They were usually pretty creative with it-it could be anything from an snowy wasteland to a barren desert. They would make it so that it was interesting for the audience. Sasha shuddered inwardly. The Gamemakers didn't even seem to care about the lives lost in the Games. All they cared about was having a good time. He scowled at the thought of them.

Sasha turned his attention back to the girl in front of him. He didn't want to seem rude or something by not paying attention to her. He had been raised in a house where manners were really important. One wrong move could result in a belt at his backside. A person learned quickly after the first mistake. Even so, Sasha's back was covered in the scars that were the memories of his mistakes.

Faeryn arched a perfect eyebrow as the guy grinned at the air. Crazy much? She thought studying him. The guy took her hand and Faeryn helped him up. The sudden act of kindness sort of surprised her, but her face remained blank. It was probably the nicest thing she had done in a while. Faeryn hadn’t always been the cold and bloodthirsty person she was now. If anyone cared to remember what she had been like in her first two years of school, they would have been surprised at what she had become after starting her training for The Games. Sometimes, when she was alone, Faeryn would wish that she could have grown up like the other girls, but then she would snap out of it and remember that her life would be perfect when she won The Games. A slightly dreamy look came over Faeryn’s eyes as she thought about the fame and fortune that were sure to be hers when she won the games. She could already see herself waving at a crowd of pitifully dressed people, none of them as wonderful as she.

“Thanks for that. I'm a little but of a klutz." The guy said. A wintery smile played on Faeryn’s lips. “I noticed.” She said, her tone still neutral, even though she disliked this guy more and more in each second that passed. It wasn’t really the guy’s fault, it was just that she thought that joking and laughing was a waste of time, especially for people who were at the right age to become a tribute. Faeryn was going to wait until she had won The Hunger Games, Why waste my beautiful smile on people who won’t appreciate it until I have won? She thought absentmindedly. She noticed the guy looking at her and she returned the gaze coldly; sizing him up as she did so. Could she take him on during a fight? Yes, especially if he’s as klutzy as he was when he ran into her Faeryn answered herself.

"I'm Sasha. Sasha Leate. And you are?" The guy said, cutting off her train of thought. Sasha. Right. She thought, now recognizing him as one of the guys who normally were laughing in the back of the classroom and disrupting the rest of the class. “Faeryn Nacht.” She answered, her tone haughty. She watched the guy for a moment, wondering what his reaction was going to be; after all she was practically District One royalty. However, he didn’t seem to be looking at her, which irritated Faeryn to no end. ‘Keep your face clear and emotionless, if your enemy sees emotion, then they know your weakness.’ Thrin’s words echoed in her head, reminding her that if she appeared angry then she would be showing a weakness, but she couldn’t keep the anger out of her eyes and face. Fortunately for her it was only a brief moment before she was able to control her features.

Sasha raised his eyebrows just slightly when she said,"I noticed," to his klutz remark. It definitely sounded like a barbed insult. Most people, when he had made that comment, would've probably joked around a little about that. This girl, however, was so obviously different. She wasn't like anyone he had met before. Even as he found himself disliking her more and more after each seond, he also found himself intrigued by her. Who was she, and why did she act the way she did?" He wondered what group of girls she would fall in. She wouldn't be a Barbie. That left either Career or Snob. She seemed to be a little of both. Sasha studied her with more wary eyes than before. If she was a Career, he could be facing her in the arena next. Could he take her down? Physically, probably. He was a pretty strong dude and was well-trained after all those years. He had trained constantly for ten-ish years with his dad. He had fallen into a training frenzy after his mom's mother, so he was well-prepared for the Games. He could handle most weapons and was a good hand-fighter.

Mentally, though, he could never kill this girl. He wasn't like that. Murdering someone cold-blooded would be impossible for him. He just wasn't that kind of person. He had seen what happened when you killed someone. When that Peacekeeper had killed his mom six years ago, he had seen what woul happen to the dead person's family and friend. He winced slightly at the memories of the aftermath of that. Evan had cried endlessly, and he had shut himself in his room for a month. If someone attcked him, he could kill them, but if not, it would be impossible for him. He sighed sadly at the memory and turned back to the girl. She introduced herself as Faeryn Nacht. She thought about that for a moment. She didn't really sound familiar. Even though they lived in the same district, he really didn't know this girl. Sasha watched as the girl looked angrily at him. He arched his eyebrows. He had done nothing wrong to her so far, yet the anger etched in her features were so obviously angry. Even as he watched, the anger seemed to disappear.

Still, he might as well have a little fun with it. He started joking around. He threw himself, carefully so he didn't get hurt, to the ground and lifted himself to his knees. He cried out, in an obviously joking tone,"Mademoiselle, what have I done to offend you? If there is anything I must do to earn your respect once more, just tell me!" Sasha couldn't hold his laughter in anymore and started laughing. His broad shoulders started shaking he tried to contain himself, but it was useless. Sasha smirked as he realized how idiotic he had looked, but that was just who he was around kids his age. He had been like that for years. No one could change that, not even the teachers. He had been in and out of detention for years for his antics. Luckily, his friends had always been in there with him. Most of the teachers he had had over the years had hated him, but he had been a pretty popular kid throughout the years. That had made it worth it, even though he would've been a goofball even if he wasn't popular. He commented,"Sorry, but I just couldn't hold it in." Then, in a slightly more serious tone, he asked,"So why did you look so angry at me?"
